The Australian government have just announced that the borders will open to international visitors from 21 Feb 2022! Great news, you can get in! Most travel and accommodation have full refund and cancellation policies so we would advise booking everything with the option to cancel but getting it booked soon as things will start to get busy now tourists can finally get back into Aus
NO! We don't want any gifts, there will be a wishing well on the day BUT we would love you all to be a part of our wedding in some small way... If you like taking photos, or if you like singing or being an MC, if you have a story to share or a poem or enjoy arranging flowers...whatever you would like to bring to the day please just let us know. It's also equally fine if you just want to turn up and party :)
We will be up and around the Airlie Beach / Whitsundays area for a few weeks before the big day and would love to spend some time with you. We'll share details of where and what we will be doing if you would like to join for some snorkelling, SUPing, sailing etc. If you are making a holiday out of it let us know your dates and we would love to arrange some time to spend together. The day after the wedding we are heading off on a kind of honeymoon holiday so we won't be back around until 16th October so best to catch us before the wedding.
Yes! Your kids are welcome to come to the beach on the wedding day.
Whitehaven Beach is a national park. It doesn't have any infrastructure which is what makes it so beautiful. That does however, mean that there is no water on the island and there is just one long drop loo. We suggest each guest brings with them: - Water (at least 3litres per person) - Sunscreen - Beach Towel - Hat - Sunnies - Rent a stinger suit if you would like to swim - Insect repelent - Something warmer for the evening if staying
Box Stinger season in the Whitsundays runs from late October to May. The warm tropical waters in the Whitsundays and around the Great Barrier Reef are the right conditions for stingers. However, being stung by a jellyfish is an infrequent occurrence. Read up on them if you are concerned. We are right at the start of the stinger season so should be quite low risk but you can hire stinger suits (wetsuits) from most places in the Whitsundays.
People will be arriving at various times during the morning. When you arrive at the South end of Whitehaven Beach, you’ll see the camping area where everyone will meet at 10am. There will be a few bits to set up so feel free to pitch in or simply sit back and soak in the beautiful surroundings. Everyone will then walk together to the location of the ceremony for an 11am kick off.
We are allowed to get married on Whitehaven Beach but there are a bunch of rules we have to adhere to so we are keeping it very low key to avoid anyone spoiling our fun. So, please don’t mention the word ‘Wedding' to any suppliers! Also, it is ‘technically’ illegal to drink alcohol in public places throughout Queensland so please be discreet if needs be on the day. We advise taking a travel calm pill before leaving on your transport to the island even if you don’t usually feel sea sick. The brand we like is called ‘travel calm’ and you can find it at any chemist. Also, please make sure you have a good hearty breakfast before you leave, light snacks will be available ahead of lunch.
Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements we should be aware of.
We’ll be on the beach and expecting temperatures of around 28 degrees so be sure to wear something comfortable for the day. Think dressed down, beach chic. For the guys, this could look like a lightweight or linen shirt and some smart shorts. For the girls a floaty dress paired with a sun hat. No shoes are required as we’ll be on the beach all day but we would advise bringing some flip flops or sandals to chuck on as you may be walking through the bush.
