Hello! Christian here. Brynne and I met in 2006 when I was 17 and a senior in High School while Brynne was 15 and a Sophomore. In high school I was really into computers, video games, and technology in general; I was a geek through and through. I still am but I was then, also. Back in those days the most popular social media outlets were MySpace and AOL Instant Messenger. On your profile there was a section called your Top 8 which was a list of your 8 closest friends. Brynne and I had a mutual friend, Melody, and Brynne was on Melody’s Top 8. I’d added Brynne, some time went by, but I hadn’t ever talked to her. Until one day… Brynne posted a bulletin, which is like a status update on Facebook. In her bulletin she asked for help setting up her Wi-Fi at her Grandparents’ house. I, being the geek that I was, thought, “This is it! This is my time to shine!” Thinking ahead, I responded with something along the lines of, “Hey! What’s your screenname? It would be faster and easier to talk on AIM while I help you.” Note: It was probably just as easy to message through MySpace at the time, but I really wanted to keep talking to her beyond just helping her set up her Wi-Fi. I thought I was pretty slick. I guess I did a pretty good job because we kept talking. We moved from AIM to texting to talking on the phone. This is the Millennial equivalent of, “Things are starting to get pretty serious.” The night before her 16th birthday I picked her up and we walked around Target. Nearly 14 years later we still like walking around Target. We spent nearly every day together that summer until we made it official on August 8th, 2006. We were laying on a trampoline together at a friend’s house looking up at the stars when I asked her, “Will you be mine?” She smiled and said yes. After which I followed up with, “Wait, you know what I mean, right?” Maybe I wasn’t as slick as I thought I was.
