How We Met

She Swiped Right

We met while Christa was living in DC and Laura in Baltimore on the dating app Bumble. We texted and talked on the phone for a couple months before we decided to meet in person in January of 2017. Laura drove 3 hours one way for this first date and met Christa in Somerset, PA at a chain restaurant called Eat'n Park where we completely hit it off over Breakfast Smiles. It was truly great, but Laura's only complaint was that Christa took her to a place that didn't have any alcohol to calm the first date nerves. Luckily, it went very well with both of us talking non-stop and neither of us wanting the date to end, so we did get that beer after all at another local spot called Tailgatez (yes, will a "z"). In true lesbian fashion, our first date was over 6 hours long and definitely worth the drive. Christa relocated to her hometown, Pittsburgh, shortly after meeting so we did long distance for 3 years-God bless the PA Turnpike. We spent our weekends falling in love while hiking, biking, car camping, and enjoying all of the food and beer that both Baltimore and Pittsburgh had to offer. Laura moved to Pittsburgh in January of 2020 and we currently rent a very cute house in Spring Hill on the Northside with our two dogs, Gryff (Doxie) and Navy (Red Heeler).

The Big Question

She Said Yes

After a few months of scheming and designing the perfect ring with a jeweler from Anthon, Iowa (shoutout to Wolfe Jewelry), Laura surprised Christa with a weekend at a Getaway cabin in April of 2021. This was after a scare that the reservation had been canceled due to maintenance less than 24 hours before they left (a story for another day). We packed up the car and the pups to head out for a weekend of glamping, hiking, and Phase 10. Night one was spent around the camp fire roasting s'mores and talking about our future. Christa did have an inkling that something may be happening when Laura was being a little over protective of her backpack. The next day, Laura tried to play it cool by telling Christa that she should wear whatever she was comfortable with as they headed out for their 7 mile hike. Christa, still a little suspicious, started walking with her hair down. Laura was quiet most of the hike, desperately looking for "the perfect spot" to pop the question. When we were on our way back, Laura suggested a clearing in the woods where Christa could sit on a particular log. At that point, Christa knew it was happening and started to take her own heart rate - a true healthcare professional. Laura had made an Adventure Book (taken from the Disney movie Up) filled with almost every picture that we have ever taken together. As Christa flipped through the last pages, Laura had written her a special note and on the next page she asked her to marry her; when Christa looked up, Laura was on one knee. Obviously, Christa said yes! We celebrated with Moet champagne, custom made bandanas for the pups, and new enGAYged koozies. It was truly a magical moment until realized that we still had a 3 mile hike back to the car....
