International Tennis Hall of Fame

Check out the international tennis hall of fame on Bellevue Ave near the Newport mansions. You can visit the museum or watch a match on the grass courts if there is a tournament that weekend. Inductees include: Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, Billie Jean King, Arthur Ashe, and John McEnroe.

Newport Polo

Check out a polo match on Saturday, August 16th at 5 p.m. You can get tickets to either sit in the grandstand, or to bring your own chairs and bring any food or drink that you want.

Mansions

The Breakers

Biggest and most extravagant of the gilded age mansions built in Newport.

Marble House

Steph's favorite mansion, which is made of 500,000 cubic feet of marble. Includes a Japanese tea house on the grounds.

Rosecliff

Home to the original Great Gatsby film, and known for it's heart-shaped staircase. Also where Stephanie and Malia were part of original cast of the Nutcracker ballet at Rosecliff.

Rough Point

Mansion was previously owned by Doris Duke (heiress to the Duke fortune), who was known for her extensive art collection, fabulous lifestyle, and generous philanthropy. Ms. Duke's curator/friend tragically and controversially died at the mansion's gates in 1966.

Second Beach

Local favorite, sandy beach to swim and surf. Concession stand is home to the best lobster roll in Rhode Island.

Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge

Park and walk down to a cliffside oceanview of second beach.

Norman Bird Sanctuary

A 300-acre bird sanctuary in Middletown near Sachuest Point and Second Beach.

Ocean Drive

Drive along beautiful rocky beaches where you can pull over for spectacular views.

Brenton Point State Park

Spectacular state park at the end of the Ocean Drive. Great place to park and walk along rocky beaches and cliffs.

Cliff Walk

Take a walk along the cliffside pathway parallel to Newport's biggest mansions, and see the most picturesque ocean views in Rhode Island.

Fort Adams State Park

Served as a fortress from 1841 until the early 1900s. Current home to the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals.

Thames Street

Walkable, cobblestone main street in downtown Newport. Full of shops, restaurants, and bars.

Bowen's and Bannister's Wharf

Waterfront area in downtown Newport with popular shops and restaurants.

Maine vs. Connecticut style: Maine means cold with mayonnaise. Connecticut means hot with butter. Stephanie's recommendation- Maine; Chris's recommendation- all lobster is tasty.

White Horse Tavern

Oldest operating restaurant in the United States, established in 1673. Unsubstantiated but believable lore has it that George Washington planned part of the Battle of Yorktown at the tavern in 1780.

The Chanler at Cliff Walk

Great restaurant with beautiful views at the start of the cliff walk.

The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection

Nice restaurant and bar in downtown Newport. Classic-style lounge and rooftop with views of downtown.
