Flights for the Americans coming over: We have nothing booked ourselves yet but from what I saw when I was looking briefly it seems Air France has some pretty good, one-stop, flights from Detroit to Dusseldorf. We just used Google Flights to find that information.
As far as hotels go, the closest to the family home in Büttgen is the Tespo Hotel (ca 10-15 min walk, similar to the town center). Das unser Familie am nächsten gelegene Hotel ist die Tespo.

In total, Buettgen has about 4 hotels plus a few Airbnb's. Additional options exist in the surrounding towns/cities of Kaarst, Korschenbroich, Neuss or Mönchengladbach. If you are looking for something more in the big city of Dusseldorf, there seems to be several options close to the Central Station.
