Known for its complex environment, the Sian Ka’an (Meaning “Origin of the Sky” in Mayan) Biosphere Reserve features a thick Yucatan jungle and freshwater marshes that extend through lagoons and Mayan-built canals to a thriving barrier reef in the Caribbean Sea.
Dos Ojos is located slightly north of Tulum. The crystal waters and tranquil beauty are bound to leave you breathless. The natural formations of the stalactites elevate the bedrock’s natural beauty and make an incredibly unique ecosystem for bats, fish, iguanas, and other jungle creatures. Select sections require a tour guide, so we recommend you book ahead.
The 13th and 14th centuries were times of great power for the Mayans who once resided in Tulum. When the occupation of the Spaniards led them to abandon their majestic homes, the 784-meter limestone wall that surrounded the town was left to ruin. You can visit this majestic place with a tour guide (book early to secure a spot).
Las Palmas is blessed with a serene stretch of sand and gentle turquoise waves. More secluded than Playa Paraíso, you won’t find vendors or restaurants in the immediate area. Although this may be less convenient, it also means Las Palmas is the perfect place if you’re looking to escape the crowded beaches. Pack a picnic and spend the day soaking up the sun.
Each visit to Hartwood is unique as the menu changes daily and every plate is served with fresh ingredients found in Yucatan markets and farms. Cooked by open fire on the grill or within their handmade wooden oven, each sea-to-table delicacy is an upscale culinary experience. Hartwood is vegetarian/vegan friendly and relies entirely on solar power and sustainable fishing methods to support healthy aquatic life. All waste is regenerated into organic compost used to revive local mangroves and interior farming. We highly encourage you to make a reservation to guarantee a table, though walk-ins are welcome. This intimate, open-walled Italian restaurant forgoes menus and sticks with a consistent rotation of house-made pastas and two or three dishes built around fish caught that day. Each meal begins with an antipasto platter that includes bruschetta, focaccia, and cauliflower. The candlelit dining area, which has wooden tables and tile flooring that meets the white sand of the beach, can get crowded, especially at night, but the open walls and high thatched ceiling compensate for that.
