Playa de la Barrosa Sancti Petri
Playa de la Barrosa is a beach of 8 km, perfect for long walks, sunsets, swimming, and water sports with beach bars (chiringuito) every mile, calm areas, and busier spots with amenities. You can enjoy a beautiful sunset view over the Atlantic.
Castillo de Sancti Petri
El Castillo de Sancti Petri is a tiny island fort with a lighthouse and amazing views. You can get there by boat or kayak tours. The castle has a cool history, from old times all the way through the Spanish War of Independence.
Visit Cádiz City
Visit Cádiz city. One of the oldest cities in Western Europe. You can explore the old town, Cathedral of Cádiz, Tavira Tower, La Caleta Beach, and vibrant plazas. Cádiz is full of history, art and a super fun environment!
Visit Vejer de la Frontera
Visit Vejer de la Frontera. This town is a stunning white village on a hill. You will enjoy great views, artisan shops, and excellent restaurants. Definitely a must-see for Andalusian charm.
Visit Duna de Bolonia
Visit La Duna de Bolonia — a huge natural sand dune by Playa de Bolonia, about 1.5 hours from Sancti Petri. It’s part of a nature park and rises over 30 meters high. You can climb it for awesome views of the beach, the Atlantic, and even Morocco on clear days. If you like surfing, nearby Tarifa is one of Spain’s top surf spots. Plus, close by there’s an ancient Roman city that was big in fish-salting back in the day.
Visit Conil de la Frontera
Another awesome whitewashed coastal spot just 30 minutes from Sancti Petri. It’s got a great mix of local Andalusian charm, beautiful beaches, lively nightlife in the summer, chill vibes, and fun beach bars (chiringuitos).
Food to try in Cádiz
Cádiz is a culinary treasure of Andalusia especially if you love seafood, tapas, and bold Mediterranean food. Here are only a few local foods to try: Tortillitas de Camarones- Cádiz’s signature tapa: crispy shrimp fritters made with tiny local shrimp. Atún Rojo de Almadraba (Bluefin Tuna)- especially in season (April–June). Local tuna is caught using the ancient almadraba method near Barbate, Zahara, and Conil. Pescaito Frito- Mixed fried fish platter. Cazón en Adobo- Paula's favorite. Marinated dogfish (shark) in vinegar, garlic, paprika, and oregano, then deep-fried. Papas Aliñadas- A must-try tapa! It’s a simple potato salad mixed with tuna, onion, and a tangy vinaigrette. Typical drinks in southern Spain: Manzanilla — a dry white wine that’s a bit stronger than most wines, so fair warning! Rebujito — a refreshing mix of white wine and Sprite, perfect for hot summer days.
