There are two airports that we recommend flying into. Hilton Head airport is directly on the island. Savannah/Hilton Head airport is 45 minutes from the island. Delta, United & American fly into Hilton Head airport. Delta, American, United, Southwest and Allegiant fly into Savannah. There is often a direct flight from Rickenbacker Airport to Savannah for those travelling from Columbus! Direct flight is awesome but Allegiant can definitely be a little less than reliable! Just keep that in mind!
Our wedding is beach formal. None of the wedding festivities will take place on the beach so no need to worry about sand unless you want to take some beach photos! Ladies - Please wear a dress and shoes you can dance in! We recommend something colorful and fun! It might get cool at night so please bring something to cover your shoulders. Gentlemen - Please wear a suit, tie optional. Colorful suits are encouraged!
If you received a plus one, it was on your invitation. As much as we would like to include everyone in the wedding day, we only have so much space!
Though we love your kids, we are having an adults only event. Please let us know if you need babysitter contact information on the island.
We recommend staying at the Westin but there are many other hotel and rental options across the island. We have a wedding block available at this link: https://book.passkey.com/event/51045872/owner/49229302/home Rooms are first come first serve and the block will close on April 9th, 2026. The block begins on Friday, May 8th. If you would like to book a room for Thursday, please call the hotel directly. If rooms run out, please contact Chris or Maggie so we can try and add more! If renting a house for a bigger group to share, we recommend to stay in Port Royal as this is closest to the Westin. This can be done through VRBO, Airbnb, https://www.beach-property.com/ and islandrentalshhi.com
There are ubers on the island but they can be limited at times. You can uber from Savannah airport to Hilton Head for $50-$100 depending on time of day. There are also transportation companies that you can arrange a ride with. We recommend renting a car if possible to help get around the island easily but don't feel obligated! The Westin is on the Breeze tram line that can take you around the island. Please see the route here: https://www.breezetrolley.com/breeze-trolley-route-map We will provide transportation for wedding festivities to and from the Westin.
Hilton Head is known for low country cuisine. Some recommendation are oysters (baked and raw), hush puppies, pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, she crab soup, collard greens and shrimp and grits. The island is home to the Gullah culture which specializes in creole cuisine.
The average temperature is between 81 degrees and 66 degrees. The ceremony and cocktail hour will be outside so dress accordingly!
Hilton Head is divided into private resort communities, private neighborhoods and public recreational spots. The biggest neighborhoods are Sea Pines, Palmetto Dunes, Hilton Head Plantation and Port Royal. Sea Pines is known for the iconic Lighthouse, great shopping and restaurants and home to the famous Salty Dog Cafe. Palmetto Dunes is home to great beaches, pickle ball/tennis, golf courses, restaurants and great rental homes. Port Royal is home to the Westin where the wedding is being held, golf courses and great rental homes. Hilton Head Plantation is home to many of the year-round residents on the island. It is where Maggie's parents live!
Port Royal - If you are staying within Port Royal, you will receive a gate pass for your stay. If you are not, you will need to tell the gate security you are attending the Morrison/Demecs wedding to get through the gate. If you have a scheduled activity in one of the private communities, be sure to ask for gate access. The most popular communities on the island are Palmetto Dunes and Sea Pines. Palmetto Dunes - If you are scheduled to play golf, tennis or pickleball in Palmetto Dunes, these all take place outside of the security gate. No access pass is required. Sea Pines - It costs $9 to go into Sea Pines. The $9 is then reimbursed and removed off your receipt at restaurants, bars, stores, etc. once you purchase something. Be sure to ask!
The beach is 100% public but there are both private and public beach access points. If you are staying at a house, the owner will point you in the direction of the closest public access point. It should never be farther than a few minutes walking distance.
