Things To Do

English Market

English Market

Grand Parade, Centre, Cork, CO, Ireland

The English Market has been a vibrant place of eating, shopping, and sight-seeing since its foundation in 1788. Despite its name, English Market is a repository of countless traditional Irish goods (it is named for its Protestant origins). It has survived fire, civil war and a failed bid to replace it with a parking lot in the 1980s! Today hailed as the "best covered market in the UK and Ireland" by Chef Rick Stein.

University College Cork

University College Cork

College Road, Cork, CO, Ireland

For our friends from Lee joining us on the island for this special day, I highly encourage strolling the campus of University College Cork. One of the best parts of our Lee experience was our beautiful campus, and each of us has treasured memories of fall leaves and spring flowers. University College Cork has a similarly moving campus. Since the wedding will be taking place in the school's very own chapel, you won't have to travel far!

Franciscan Well Brewery & Brewpub

Franciscan Well Brewery & Brewpub

14 North Mall, Cork, CO T23 P264, Ireland

All of Ireland, and especially Cork, is known for its lengthy history and strong tradition of brewing. I present to you the Franciscan Well. This brewery is named after the site itself, where a medieval Franciscan monastery once stood, known for its healing well. Patrons can choose from a range of specialist lager, ale, stout and wheat beers, as well as various tipples from micro-breweries all round the world. They also have a lovely garden to relax in with a pint in the beer, where tunes from local musicians often fill the rafters.

Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral

If you want to see a real Irish Cathedral, designed to inspire awe and impel worship, this church is it. It sits at the highest hill in the main city of Cork and and is said to be constructed atop a site used for worship since the 7th century; the original structure being a monastery founded by the very monk for whom this now-grand cathedral is named.

Sin é Pub

Sin é Pub

8 Coburg Street, Cork, CO T23 KF5N, Ireland

The long-established home of traditional Irish music in Cork city, the Irish words ‘Sin é’ effectively translate to mean ‘That’s it!’, a reference to the funeral parlour located next door. Sin é is widely viewed as the best traditional pub in Cork!

Elizabeth Fort

Elizabeth Fort

Barrack Street, Cork, CO T12 C8A0, Ireland

With perhaps the best view in all of Cork, and located in the heart of the city, this fortress is one of the oldest structures in the city, completed in its modern form in 1624. This version was the second iteration of the fort - following the accession of James I to the throne of England, locals stormed and destroyed the fort out of fear that the English would make use of it. When order was restored, the people of Cork were made to rebuild it again at their own expense. You can take an audio tour of the place and see Cork from above!
