It was the first day of freshman year at UConn. We lived right down the hall from each other that year and became good friends. Chris would bring his guitar down to the girls' rooms and play acoustic versions of "Hey Ya" and "Living on a Prayer". You'd think that would be enough to snag the girl of his dreams (Kathleen). But, one of us had brought a high school relationship with us to college, so we remained friends. Over the years, one of us was quite content with that, oblivious to the possibilities. Meanwhile, the other did whatever it took to change that; including taking salsa dancing lessons, volunteering at shelters, and enrolling in classes like "close relationships". When senior year came around, Chris took a bold stand in the library cafe and proclaimed his love for Kathleen. 6 years later, when Chris proposed, he was just as much of a sweaty nervous wreck as he was that day in the library. Nevertheless, love prevailed.
