We met in Long Beach, California, on our first date at Saint & Second in Belmont Shore. At the time, Clint was in his third year as a Forensic DNA Scientist at the Orange County Crime Lab and had just moved to Long Beach the week before to try living on his own for the first time. Chris had been in Los Angeles for only three weeks, having just moved from Philadelphia to start a new job at Northrop Grumman — and had very confidently sworn off serious dating. That promise didn’t last long. From the very beginning, we became inseparable. What started as a simple dinner quickly turned into a partnership built on laughter, support, and a lot of life happening all at once. Over the years, we’ve been through a lot: a global pandemic, master’s degrees, health scares, months of work travel being apart, the loss of loved ones -- always finding our way forward together. Through it all, we’ve learned how to show up for each other, celebrate the big wins, and laugh our way through the chaos. We’re so grateful for the love and support that brought us here and can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter of our story with you.
The plan was simple and, in theory, foolproof: take Clint to New York City for the very first time under the guise of seeing Elf the Musical on Broadway. Clint loves theater. Christmas was right around the corner. What could possibly go wrong? Everything. On the morning of the proposal, we arrived at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station ready to take Amtrak to New York Penn Station, only to learn that a power outage had shut down the entire Northeast Corridor. Apparently, this “never happens.” What was first announced as a one-hour delay turned into four hours of engine swaps, power restorations, and mounting panic as the 2:00 p.m. matinee slipped further and further away. With Broadway officially off the table, Chris and his sister Michelle sprang into action and managed to secure last-minute tickets to an off-Broadway show called The Perfect Crime. The show was… memorable. The plot was unhinged, the performances were bold, and as one TripAdvisor reviewer perfectly put it, “The perfect crime is they took our money.” Somehow, this unexpected detour became one of the funniest parts of the day — and a reminder that sometimes the backup plan is the real story. After surviving the show, we made our way to the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, where Chris finally got down on one knee, surrounded by family — his parents, sister Michelle, brother Nick, Uncle Bob, and Aunt Sheri. The day ended with a celebratory dinner in Midtown and, thankfully, a much less dramatic train ride home. It wasn’t the proposal we planned — but it was chaotic, unforgettable, full of love, and perfectly us.
