FAQs

The Wedding Website of Chris Robinson and Alice Johnson
Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

The wedding party will be in cocktail/ semi-formal dress - wear what makes you feel good, and we'd suggest comfortable shoes for the ceilidh dancing! Tartan encouraged, kilts celebrated.

Question

Are you accepting gifts?

Answer

We do have a registry which you can find in the Registry tab, but you are under absolutely no obligation to contribute, we just want to see you there!

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

Just south of Edinburgh, you'd be close enough to stay in the city, or alternatively there are smaller towns like Dalkeith a short drive away with hotels, inns, and B&Bs available. We've added some suggestions to our Travel & Stay tab.

Question

How do I get there?

Answer

Public transport is limited in the area as Borthwick Castle is situated in a semi-rural area. For those staying in the local area, there are a handful of local taxi services, which should be pre-booked. These are listed in the 'Travel & Stay' section of the website. For those staying in Edinburgh, you can get a taxi direct to the venue, or catch the train from Edinburgh Waverley Train Station and take the Border Railways train to Gorebridge (then a short cab from there). For those driving, Borthwick Castle is situated a 12 miles South of Edinburgh. A few minutes from the A7 through the village of North Middleton. There is a car park at the castle.

Question

Is there parking?

Answer

Yes! There is a car park right at the entrance to the castle, as you follow the drive up and the castle comes into view, you'll see this on your right. We're not expecting the car park to be full, but if it is then there is also some space on the gravel through the castle gates and to the left, against the wall.

Question

What is a ceilidh?

Answer

This is a Scottish communal dance featuring traditional music. Don't worry, our band specialises in not just performing them, but also teaching those new to the concept how to dance along!

Question

Is the venue accessible?

Answer

Borthwick Castle has no lift access, and has an external staircase to reach the ground floor of the venue. As well as this, the only access to the ceremony room is via a spiral staircase of ~60 steps. Please let us know if you're worried about this or need any extra help!
