Tiago and Chloe first crossed paths at Grand Prix New York in May of 2016. They only worked one full shift together, but something about their conversation felt natural and easy. Most of their chatting happened in the changing room, where Chloe was stationed (she’ll admit it was the easiest job). In the middle of their conversation, their manager walked in. Chloe, seizing the moment, pulled him aside to hand in her two weeks’ notice. Since she wasn’t exactly the MVP of the race track crew, her manager kindly suggested that her “two weeks” could start immediately. Chloe was thrilled. Tiago… not so much. They wrapped up the shift with a polite, “Nice to meet you,” both feeling a surprising sense of comfort and familiarity with each other—only to realize this potential new friendship had ended almost as quickly as it had begun. Fast forward a few months: Chloe returned to Grand Prix to pick up her friend (and future bridesman), Matt Ciccone, for dinner. Tiago happened to be working that shift. Excited, Chloe went straight over to say hello and catch up. This time, they exchanged numbers—and from that day forward, they haven’t gone a single day without talking.
