For those who may prefer staying off Sanibel Island, Fort Myers is about 40 minutes from the island (where the airport is located). There are many hotel options in the area. Fort Myers Beach is about 25 minutes away from the Sanibel. We recently stayed on Fort Myers Beach at the Best Western Plus Resort, & would highly recommend it. (Link below)
