After meeting each other through friends in college, Braxton asked Chloe to dinner on November 12, 2019. Two days later, we closed down a restaurant as the last two people people there after talking for four hours straight! Neither of us had even noticed the time, or how many people had come and gone while the waiters slowly began to clean up around us. Fast forward to March 2020. We had spent almost every day together since that first date, but like many around us we had no idea what a global pandemic had in store for us. We spent hours taking walks together, picking up take-out to eat in parks, and visiting some friends from 6-feet apart. In summer of 2020, we both decided to pursue our graduate degrees. Braxton accepted an offer from University of Arizona Law School, while Chloe planned to attend Dartmouth College to receive her Master’s in Public Health in the fall. We decided the long distance would be worth it. As has happened with many others over the past year, our plans changed. We both decided to stay in Utah and complete graduate school virtually. While we were dissapointed in this turn of events, we quickly realized that being able to stay together while in school would be the silver lining.
Shortly after starting our January classes, Braxton proposed! He had Chloe’s roommate bring her to downtown Salt Lake City to “pick up dinner,” but then surprised her standing in front of their favorite movie theater. He was holding flowers and smiling under a marquee that read “Will You Marry Me.” Chloe said yes immediately and they turned around to both of their parents standing behind them. It was a perfect proposal and we couldn’t be happier! Falling for each other in 2020 was very different than it may have been any other year. However, we like to look at the silver linings and recognize how lucky we are to have had each other during such a difficult time, and we can’t wait to celebrate this special day with everyone we love.
