Jesse and Erin met in February of 2017 while volunteering with the SCA in Lacombe, LA. They were both environmental education interns, working with kids, adults, alligators, and an endangered snake. After moving into the old converted seminary (Jesse helped Erin unpack and get settled), they decided to experience Mardi Gras since the office was shut down for the festivities anyway. Flying beads, great music, coconut fights, and liquor-to-bathroom exchange rates were the name of the game. They worked well together, playing pool on the weekends and leading bayou tours. Jesse even took care of feeding the office pets since dead mice aren’t really Erin’s thing. After three months though time was up - Jesse was headed west for another internship and Erin was off to school in DC. After a difficult goodbye though the letters started and even across eight states and three continents they never stopped. The two started dating the August of 2017 and somehow made 30 months of long distance pass in a second. They moved in together in Texas in October of 2019, adopting two kittens that January. It certainly hasn’t been a conventional journey, but for these two adventure buddies it has been perfect. The best part is this is only the beginning.
Week three of being confined to the camper, after testing positive for Covid, Jesse received something in the mail. Work from home attire dictates sweatpants, messy bun, and no makeup - so bear that in mind. Erin had a pretty good idea what the package was when she was told not to enter the bedroom. They picked out a ring together just a few weeks ago. As the minutes pass the kitties got more curious wanting to know what all the hush hush was about. Sneaky little things opened the door just enough to slip in leaving Erin all alone. Finally, after ten minutes or so, Jesse said Erin could come in - and guess what she saw. Her sweet kitties both in little tuxes on the bed! When she finally peeled herself away from the sweet muffins she found Jesse on one knee with the most perfect ring she’d ever seen.
On April 22nd - Earth Day - Jesse and Erin and a few close friends and family made it official. The two went to the court for a marriage license (and Erin cried), then they got married by an ordained friend (and Erin cried), and they got tattoo rings (and Jesse almost cried). The ceremony was short and sweet with Tupac lyrics, sushi, and an impromptu photo session. Of course nothing is official until the car gets decorated so they could drive off in style.
