About a month before I moved to Boston, I downloaded the dating app Hinge. I had zero intention of actually dating yet, but I wanted to see what New England men were like! (Spoiler: it was a lot of men at Patriots games, holding fish, and drinking) Chingis reached out to me, and my initial thought was that I shouldn't respond to his message because I hadn't even moved yet and I felt like a creep! However, I decided he was really cute and that there was no harm in flirting with him anyways. Early on in the conversation, Chingis asked me out. I didn't want to tell him I was still in California, so I explained that I'd be "busy" for the next several weeks and asked if he was willing to wait to go out. He replied, "Sure, I'll follow up!" And he did. We went on our first date the week after I moved to Boston! I still can't believe how lucky I am. -Bethany She looked cute! -Chingis
Part of our motivation to change our name was to find a symbol that was personally meaningful to both of us. We spent weeks trying on new names to see how they fit - almost like trying on new suits - before we landed on the perfect one. Caliston. The moment we spoke it aloud, a recognition that it was the one washed over both of us. We each felt it individually before confirming with each other how much we loved the name. Ironically, in our desire to create something new for the future we had to look to our past. We each searched for something that shaped us as people before meeting each other. For Bethany it is California, and for Chingis it is Boston. We wanted to embody the best of East Coast and West Coast values for our future family as those places hold a deep place in our hearts. The decision was deeply personal and motivated by a will to create something new. Caliston honors our unique histories while laying a foundation for our future together as husband and wife.
