My neighbor was having a party and while I was there he introduced me to Kyle! We said hello and we went on with our night, not paying much attention to each other... or so I thought. Out of nowhere, Kyle walked up and asked if I was hungry - “I’m always hungry,” I said. He followed up with, “Do you like peanut M&M’s?” And DUH, of course I do! He then lifted his shirt just slightly to reveal, tucked into a pants pocket, a red Solo cup filled with Peanut M&M’s he’d snagged from the upstairs pantry. I ate a few, he got called away, but for the rest of the night I would look for him, walk up and steal more M&M’s. Honestly, it was a ridiculous but hilarious way to get my attention. At the end of the night, Kyle asked if he could walk me home. A while later, we all went snowboarding. I cannot snowboard to save my life BUT of course, Kyle can do anything! A friend of ours had brought us to the top of the hardest hill, multiple times, and I was immediately left behind. Every now and again, Kyle would stay back with me so I wouldn’t feel alone. When I reached the bottom, I announced that I was done with hard hills and was sticking to the bunny slope and guess who volunteered to join me? Kyle. We went up the ski lift, both falling off and went down the bunny hill on our butts, every time! From there, two years of friendship unfolded, full of silly little adventures, late-night FaceTimes, açaí bowl dates, seal watching and long drives. And by the time I realized it, I didn’t just like him, I loved him.
