It was the summer of 2013. Two recent college grads job hunting to get ready to start their careers. Why did they say, “hey, I’ll work part time at Nike while figuring it all out?” God knew. As fate would have it, they both applied to their local Nike Factory Outlet in Jackson, NJ. Typically, on different shifts, and hanging with different new co-workers, they did not become friends until the spring of 2014. Yes, this part-time gig took on a life of itself and lasting longer than expected. Their friendship grew over numerous long talks after work, usually while standing near their cars in the parking lot until one of their parents would call and say, “the store closed a while ago, are you okay?” Their first real date was October 17, 2014. Shortly after, Dave invited Cheyenne to be his date for his sister’s wedding in November 2014. Over the years their relationship would grow but they never made it official...until 2018! Throughout those years, they matured, lived lives of fun and travel, received advanced degrees and certifications, and seized career opportunities. Yet, through it all they stayed connected, as they couldn't deny the feelings they had for each other. And, on October 12, 2018, they became an OFFICIAL couple! It's been an amazing journey ever since!
It was 2020 and as we all knew, a pandemic was raging. It was also Cheyenne and Dave’s 2-year anniversary; a milestone neither of them had reached in previous relationships and they wanted to acknowledge that in a special way. With so many travel restrictions in place, and wanted to avoid any unnecessary exposure, they decided to take a road trip for an extended weekend in Rhode Island! They planned a weekend full of site seeing in Providence and Newport, visiting lighthouses, doing the Cliff Walk and eating amazing seafood. On Monday of their trip, October 12, their two-year anniversary, visiting a lighthouse in Jamestown and a lovely dinner on the water, was the plan. The day started out overcast, windy and rainy, and then, it all seemed to clear away just in time for the trip to the lighthouse. As they neared the cliff, Dave took Cheyenne's hand and led her to an incredibly beautiful spot nearby. He handed her a gift, a personalized comic strip that featured some of their relationship big moments and trips. Cheyenne smiled and laughed as she flipped through the pages, making comments on their past adventures. As she reached the last page, she reads, “Will you marry me?”, she looks up in shock and realizes that Dave is down on one knee. She starts to cry as she looks back at the last page of the comic strip and then back at Dave, who now has the biggest smile on his face and he says " Cheyenne, will you marry me?". With eyes full of tears and with complete happiness Cheyenne said "YES!". And the amazing journey gets even sweeter!
