Our Unofficial Meet Cute

We first met at our church. Alex's brother's family were members there and he would come visit. We would see each other in passing and at our small connect groups. Alex tried to ask me out one day but it backfired in his eyes and everyone wanted to come along with us. One fateful evening though I attended a wedding that Alex was in. He was so handsome! We began having actual conversations at the wedding. Afterwards we went to a mutual friend's house to hang out. I walked away from the group to go warm up by the fire and Alex finally had his moment. We talked... for a long time. In fact we talked all night. It was then that I finally knew he had feelings for me too. Everyone left and we took the conversation out to the car where we continued to talk for hours. After all the time of silly flirting and all those long looks Alex would give me (haha), here we are now 2 years later about to get married!

The Proposal

It was the night of October 28, 2017. We were at a Halloween Party. Alex and I dressed as Crown and Coke if you were wondering. Yes, it was funny and clever. Alex had been quiet and moody all day. I should have known something was up since he orchestrated for both our families and some of our close friends to be all together at the same time. It was a great night with a lot of laughter. As the night was ending there was a costume contest. Alex and his sister had it all planned out; Alex and I would WIN the costume contest and there he would get down on one knee! BUT his sister had a little surprise of her own. When Alex's parents won the contest and not us, he was extremely confused. Instead we won WORST dressed. I have to say I was a tiny bit upset at first... like I said I thought our costumes were funny and clever. Soon though I realized what was going on. He began in Spanish and I could only understand some words like corazón. Then he asked me in English. He got down on one knee and gave me a box with a skull in it and the ring on the skull (you pull the string and the skull comes out). I was in shock and crying-laughing when I put the ring on. Not until someone yelled, "Is that a yes?" that I said, "Yes!!" It was a joyous moment that we will treasure for the rest of our lifes.
