Even though they grew up within a mile of each other and went to all the same places, John and Kristen never met until they were in high school. John, an apathetic senior, Kristen, an impressionable freshman. Little did they know Kristen's mother, and John's grandmother saw something neither of them had any idea of. The catalyst was a favor called in by grandma Helen, requesting John take a friend's daughter to a dance...John couldn't of known, and Kristen surely didn't. A fun night, cut short by Kristen's prudent mother...the dance was a soft introduction. Chance meetings in years to come, ensured that Kristen was never far from John's mind. Upon returning to Seattle after several years away, Helen immediately suggested he reconnect with Kristen. Unsure how his pursuit would be received he showed little action. Finally the right combination of courage and counsel coalesced and John asked Kristen to drinks. Not giving him an inch in their first planned encounter John's ego was wounded and he chalked it up to a loss. A few weeks passed until he received a message from Kristen granting him a second chance. Excited, confused, and flustered John took the bait. Their second date was encouraging at the start, and then fueled by friends and tequila sodas, John bought a plane ticket that night, crashing the groups trip to Palm Springs. If the trip is a success "theres no escaping me" he thought...and he was right.
