Robert and Margery first met in St. Louis as medical school classmates. They were an unlikely match and met through equally unlikely circumstances - a drinking game. It was a school night when Margery received the first text from Robert: “Hey Margery, I know we haven’t spoken very much this year, but I just wanted to let you know how amazing you looked in your blue dress during re-visit. I was wondering if you wanted to grab dinner sometime, let me know!” Over the course of a sleepless night, Margery fretted over how to (politely) tell him that she “just wasn’t interested.” It was only later that she found out that the text was from a drinking game that Robert was playing the night before: he could choose to send an embarrassing text or take a shot. It ended up being the shot heard around the world (well, at least the medical school). From this single text in 2015 started a years-long journey through ups and downs, that ended up blossoming into so much more.

It took awhile for Robert and Margery (mostly Robert) to realize that they were meant to be. Robert sipped tea, Margery drank coffee. Robert was a California bro, Margery was a Midwestern gal. Despite these differences, for the next six years, the two would go on many adventures and grow closer together. From eating campfire smores at Johnson Shut-Ins to pistachio donuts in Chicago, and dancing at concerts in LA to attending meditation retreats in Thailand, they made lasting memories and even more inside jokes.

For the proposal, Robert knew that they needed to go on one more adventure together. On June 7th, 2020, Robert and Margery went camping in Hawn State Park. At sunset, Robert led Margery to a secluded spring and bent the knee, asking Margery the crucial question: “will you spend the rest of my life with you.” In spite of the slip-up, Margery said yes! Since then, they have added one more to the Chen Gang family: Azuki, a rambunctious pomsky who loves treats more than life itself. We can't wait to celebrate our next adventure with all of you.
