Laura and Matt’s journey begins where all storied romances do, in the halls of Morgan Stanley. They met on June 23, 2014 during their first day of training as investment banking analysts, where alphabetically organized fate brought M. Calvano and L. Chen together as seat neighbors for the ensuing eight weeks. Rewinding about half an hour before they met, Matt had decided that a hot, humid NYC morning was the perfect condition for walking to work, and about ten minutes into his walk, as his button down became a sweat-drenched second layer of skin, he realized his rookie mistake. In hopes of not being forever known as the "guy who sweats a lot," Matt hid in the bathroom and waved that shirt with reckless abandon under the hand dryer. Miraculously, it dried in time for Matt to make it to his seat on time. He sat down and turned around to introduce himself to Laura. Ironically, she told him: "I like your shirt" (she really did!). Over the next two months, Laura and Matt got to know each other through casual conversations between breaks and trips downstairs to Starbucks, where one time Matt filled an awkward silence by talking about how great of a deal the spinach feta wrap was. Though they enjoyed spending time together, work soon took over and they rarely saw each other over the next year. But pitchbook deadlines and financial models couldn’t keep them apart, as the occasional elevator lobby run-ins became the highlight of their days. It wasn’t until March 2015 when Matt finally asked Laura on a date. Since then, they have conquered three years of long distance and two years of grad school together, with each year happier and more full of love than the one before. All of you have played a special part in our lives together, and we are so excited to have you be part of our wedding day!
