Both single, both independent, neither really “looking.” Out of boredom and piqued interest, however, they went and started swiping. Neither had a plan other than to just pass the time that evening. Unbeknownst to them, a simple question would lead to curiosity, curiosity to smitten, smitten to affection, affection to love. “My dog has manners and can say ‘please.’” “Can he say ‘thank you?’” That weird, unrehearsed, ridiculous pickup line would be the beginning of what would be a busy year for both. A month of 4-5 hour talks every night would lead to meeting, and from there it was all over. Sure, arguments and disagreements would happen with two independent minds, but they learned and made each other better. They empowered and uplifted each other. They told the other when they’re being insufferable, but love each other no less. He got the new job, they put a house up for sale and started building one of their own. Once the new door opened, they wouldn’t look back. Fast forward to today. Three dogs, two jobs, one story. It’s not conventional, it’s not traditional, it’s not by-the-book. It’s like them; independent, unique, ridiculous. Today they promise to be ridiculous to each other for the rest of their lives. Ridiculous with laughter, love, kindness, generosity, truth, and faithfulness. It’s a story they hope to tell their grandkids the way his grandparents have told theirs. It’s a story that won’t be duplicated, a story all their own.
