Sebastian and I first met in college at Christopher Newport University. Two years after I had graduated, we ended up hitting it off at a fall homecoming tailgate. We had a great time together and Sebastian reached out to me the following night and asked if he could take me out on a date. I of course agreed and we had our first date at Ozzie’s in Fairfax Corner. I was nervous and wasn’t sure what to expect but the conversation carried on with ease and we connected instantly. After that first date we have been inseparable, spending almost every day together since. After a big cross-country move, a few new jobs, and adding Stanley to our little family, our relationship quickly blossomed into a forever partnership.

The proposal was nothing short of perfect. Sebastian and I had flown to Virginia from our home in Austin, Texas to spend Thanksgiving with our families. I was taking the train up to Washington D.C. after a great Thanksgiving meal with my family and Sebastian was waiting to pick me up at Union Station. When I arrived he had plans to go to dinner but we first needed to stop by his Dads office building on Capital Hill to drop off my bags. While at the office Sebastian convinced me to go to the rooftop deck to see one of the best views of Washington D.C. he had ever seen. We walked from one end of the rooftop to the other admiring all the monuments lit up at night. We finally started to walk back hand-in-hand towards the door to go inside when all of the sudden he fell a step behind me and when I turned around and he was down on one knee asking me to marry him! I was in complete shock and even asked him if he was kidding! He pulled out a box and before even looking at the ring I said YES! All that mattered in that moment was that the man I had fallen deeply in love with was asking me to make a commitment to living the rest of my life with him. As if he hadn’t already done enough, he surprised me by having all of his family and closest friends waiting downstairs with champagne to celebrate!
