We met (oh so romantically) in the cyberspace of AOL Instant Messenger, where a mutual friend shared Chelsea's screen name with an inquiring Ryan. This was the beginning of the reputable profile/away message shout-outs, late-night phone calls, awkward blushing cheeks after prolonged cafeteria eye-contact, changing routes to class in pursuit of haphazard run-ins, and all of the other melodramatic highs and lows of a mutual teenage crush. In 2008 we were in our freshman and sophomore years at Bloomsburg & East Stroudsburg Universities. We learned that it’s true what they say, ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’, so we considered giving a relationship a try. The deal was sealed after Chelsea found a letter on her desk, left behind from a weekened visit. Within the letter Ryan wrote, “I think we should give it a chance because it’s going to turn out okay.” And 10 years later, it turns out he was right!

It was the last leg of a once in a lifetime trip to Greece, ending with the dazzling island of Santorini. We spent the day at a volcanic black sand beach, enjoying local beers and endless tzatziki. We (or in retrospect, just Chelsea) had plans to have dinner in the town of Oia, famous for it’s traditional white washed buildings and blue domes. We were picked up from our hotel by a lovely cab driver, who spewed (very convincing) lies about the amazing restaurant we were(n’t) headed to. Our small car climbed cliff-side dirt roads for 40 minutes before reaching a ‘beautiful lookout spot,’ (as the driver called it) where he recommended taking a picture. We walked up a rustic trail to the tallest point of the cliff, and just as we were about to lay our eyes on the driver-endorsed view, we heard soft, romantic music and soon came upon the scene that we will both remember for the rest of our lives.
