How We Met

Love in the air

Chelsea and Rob met on an airplane. Yep, the ultimate meet-cute. Two strangers on a Delta flight from NYC LGA to Burlington, VT on December 30th, 2017. Chelsea was visiting her sister and mom, Rob was off to see his friends Jason and Deirdre. This short flight was (thankfully) delayed due to some bad weather and ice on the wings. Rob said "Hello, how are you?" just before Chelsea was set to put on her headphones and zone out as she typically did on flights (avoiding strange men trying to talk to her). What was supposed to be an hour-long flight turned into a three-hour trek, that had us on the tarmac for quite a while, as Rob joked about the orange slime and green Gatorade that was being blasted onto the wings. We slowly got to know each other... even playing a very random set of 20 questions sent by a friend. When we finally took off Rob managed to score some pretzels from the flight attendant and even some wine too. By the time we realized how much we liked talking to each other, it was too late to be nervous. We set loose plans to keep talking more in Burlington. Our first date was a few days later on January 1, 2018. It was 0º outside. We sat for an extended dinner at Leunig's (we closed the place), found the only bar open downtown, and continued our long, best, first date ever. What started as serendipity became a long-distance love affair between San Francisco and North Carolina and eventually, we joined forces in California alongside our furry little wild child, Molly the puggle. We're so lucky, so in love, and so excited to share that love and celebrate with you all soon.

The Proposal

4.24.21

One of our favorite places in the Bay Area (and perhaps the planet) is Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma, CA. On the drive up Rob recounted some of his favorite memories of the relationship... meeting on the plane, visiting North Carolina, trips to Hawaii, and Indian Springs in Calistoga. We talked about the spark we felt when we first met, the love we'd built over these years. When we got to the winery, Rob took Chelsea on a walk through the grounds there, until we got to a private spot just in front of the vines. Rob got down on one knee and shared his love and Chelsea said yes. Though the proposal wasn't a complete surprise, the moment was beautiful and timeless and captured by a friend at GunBun hidden in the bushes a few feet from where we got engaged. We spent the afternoon enjoying our time in wine country, eating, drinking, and feeling so good, knowing we'd just promised our love to one another.
