How we met: Mike's version

We met in Atlantic City. I was wingman for my friend and Chelsea was wingwoman for hers. I first met Chelsea at the pregame. Believe it or not, I knew she’d be my wife the moment I met her - but I decided to play it cool. We went out to a club and went our separate ways (I decided to hang with the guys...). After a night of partying, we all woke up the next day and decided to keep the party going. The four of us decided to go out in Philly for a Sunday Funday. After bar hopping around to what seemed like 10 different bars, I realized she was clearly drawn to me – I don’t know if it was the games of ping pong, my steady hand at Jenga, or maybe just my smooth approach that weekend. But the more we hopped, the more I realized she was really into it. So at the last bar (unfortunately I can’t remember the name), I decided it was time to take it all to the next level – it just felt right. So I got down on one knee and proposed. She loved it so much that she started to cry and said yes! The whole bar erupted in applause! It was an absolutely magical moment in our lives. Now after six years together (and one more “official” proposal), we’re finally getting married!

How we met: Chelsea's version

It started like any other winter weekend. My friend and I decided to tag along on a night out in Atlantic City. She was hoping to spend some time with her new love interest, and I was just excited to have a free hotel room to crash in. Long story short, we meet up with him and his friends and go to the club. To no one’s surprise, I bumped into my own friends and danced the night away forgetting I’d ever shown up with a different group. The following morning was surprisingly warm and sunny for late March. The guys, including Mike, offer to drive us back to Philly, where I was living at the time. It was a chivalrous gesture we couldn’t refuse, and a shameless attempt to keep the weekend romance alive for a Sunday Funday. And while I thought the romance was between my friend and her new man, it became extraordinarily clear that this guy, Mike, had a love interest of his own. What started as a few unsolicited compliments and a few solicited beers, became what could only be described as a comedy act, where an overserved Mike was professing his love to me (and anyone else who would listen). He likes to think he was being smooth, and I played along out of sheer confusion, not knowing how else to respond. Perhaps I was giving him an inflated sense of confidence. Because low and behold, Mike thought it was time to take our “relationship” to the next level. He looked at me from across the table at a crowded bar, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. The entire place erupted in applause and congratulations. And I was crying – tears of laughter. I said yes. And we proceeded to have our first date that August – 5 months after our “engagement.”
