How We Met

Chelsea's Perspective

I had just started working at Children's in the NICU as an RN, and I met another new nurse named Lily with whom I quickly struck up a wonderful friendship with. Lily and I became roommates, and one day we were sitting in a class for work, and Lily asked if I would be interested in going on a blind date with her "super cool" friend named Kent. I had never been on a blind date before, so I was a little skeptical at first. Eventually, I reluctantly agreed to go on the date. I was told Kent would be planning the entire evening so I had no clue what the date would entail leading into it. Kent showed up at my door early (much to everyone's surprise -especially if you know Kent!). We had a blast bowling, eating supper, and talking the night away. That night I just knew there was something special with Kent - and the rest is history!

How We Met

Kent's Perspective

I was in a turbulent phase of life for the few years in between undergrad and dental school. I didn't stay in one place for longer than a year, and therefore never had time to pursue a serious relationship. I constantly had friends trying to set me up on dates, but would usually say no because of one reason or the other. After getting into dental school, I became more open to the dating scene, knowing I'd be in Minneapolis for at least four years. Kolin is one of my best friends. His girlfriend, Lily (also a close friend of mine), wanted to set me up with one of her new roommates, Chelsea. She showed me her picture and I thought Chelsea was very attractive. I was open to a blind date, but nervous. I didn't fully commit to the blind date until Kolin gave the go-ahead ("Dude, you should definitely date this girl.") I went into the date thinking this would be a great way to get into the dating scene. Little did I know that there would be an instant spark, and I would eventually fall in love to the most amazing person I have ever met.

The Proposal

Chelsea and Kent decided to spend a night out in Stillwater (one of their favorite places) to walk around town and have dinner. Kent convinced Chelsea to walk around Stillwater in the cold for a little while to kill some extra time they had before their "dinner reservations" that Chelsea was led to believe they had. Right as they were walking across the bridge that crosses the St. Croix River, Kent got down on one knee! Kent eventually admitted that there were no dinner reservations and then drove Chelsea to a friend's apartment to celebrate. Still in shock, Chelsea was surprised again to see friends and family waiting at the apartment to surprise her. It was a wonderful night that neither one of them will forget!
