Things To Do

Casco Viejo

Panama City, Panamá Province, Panama

Casco Viejo, the historic district of Panama City, offers a charming blend of colonial architecture, vibrant street art, and bustling markets. This UNESCO world heritage site is filled with picturesque plazas, trendy cafes, and rooftop bars with stunning views. Wander through the cobblestone streets to discover beautiful churches, boutique shops, and lively nightlife. Stroll along the Paseo de las Bovedas which is a vine- and bougainvillea-covered esplanade runs along the top of the sea wall that the Spanish built to protect the city in its early days. Because the promenade’s lush greenery offer a shady refuge from the hot tropical sun, it is one of the best places to find people selling local crafts. On any given day you will find it lined with tables, their vendors all eager to sell their traditional crafts to passersby. Locals and tourists too will be there, walking among the crafts for sale or watching an occasional vendor create more product to sell as she waits for a sale.

Panama Canal

Panama

The easiest way to visit the Panama Canal is to head to the Miraflores Visitors Center, just outside Panama City. This modern center features a four-floor interactive museum that looks at the canal's history, operations, expansion and ecology, an instructive 15-minute film and several viewing platforms, including the main one on the 4th floor with panoramic views of canal transits (the best times are from 9am to 11am and from 3pm to 5pm when transits are more frequent). The Miraflores Visitor Center is a space where you can live a unique experience of the Panama Canal. The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours.

Amador Causeway

Calzada de Amador, Panamá, Provincia de Panamá, Panama

Visit the Amador Causeway where you can walk, run, bike, rent electric scooters and enjoy the breeze. Home to the Biomuseo, restaurants, clubs, and shops.

Punta Culebra Nature Center

Calzada de Amador, Panamá, Panama

A lesser-known alternative to the Frank Gehry-designed Biomuseo nearby, this Smithsonian-run center offers acres of tropical dry forest where sloths sprawl overhead, child-sized iguanas guard the fountains and crab-eating raccoons prowl. The indoor exhibits display moray eels, phosphorescent anemones and Panama’s famous, and highly poisonous, golden frog.
