Chelsea arrived in Japan to teach English in the summer of 2011. During her summer training, she met Dusty, who at the time was merely her "senpai." Little did he know, Chelsea began admiring Dusty from afar from that day forward. Because Chelsea and Dusty lived nearly an hour away from each other, they didn't have many opportunities to socialize or get to know each other. Every year, however, Dusty organized a trip to Thailand during the teachers' winter holiday to volunteer at an orphanage for Christmas. When Chelsea realized this trip would give her the opportunity to get to know him better, she jumped on it. Working together to plan the charity event for the trip only proved to Chelsea that Dusty was caring, motivated, adventurous, and put others before himself. In the months that passed, Chelsea and Dusty looked forward to any opportunity to talk and get to know each other more, although these opportunities seemed few and far between given their work circumstances. Fast forward to summer 2012. One of the language teachers organized a lakeside barbecue at a picturesque spot on Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater body in Japan. Fate decided to intervene and allowed Chelsea and Dusty to be in the same place at the same time at something other than a work function. They both took they opportunity to talk, laugh, and enjoy each other's company while they swam the day away. Near the end of the day, Dusty noticed that he and Chelsea were the only two people left in the swimming area. Under the twilight sky, unsure of what her response would be, Dusty leaned in and told Chelsea he had feelings for her. Dusty and Chelsea began dating shortly thereafter. Their beginning as a couple started five years ago, and starting March 25th 2018, they will journey on together as husband and wife.
