We first met at a church event being introduced by one of our pastors. Chelsea thought that she was being introduced to a first time visitor but was shocked to find out that he was the church's drummer. DeMarcus first saw Chelsea in passing at a bible study and was happy to finally get to meet her. With both of us graduating from Historically Black Colleges and Universities, we made our first connection with a light hearted debate about which of our universities is the best. Since then, we have decided to agree to disagree on the issue. While Chelsea's heart bleeds FAMU's orange and green and DeMarcus will still choose Jackson State's white and blue, we both are anxiously awaiting the day that #TheTwoBecomeRobinson.
About a week before the engagement, Chelsea's mother called and told her that she wanted to take family portraits and have a BBQ at the house the following weekend. Chelsea quickly agreed; however, DeMarcus declined because of a “gig”that he had to do that weekend. After driving to her hometown and getting dressed, she went outside to fellowship with some of her family members as she waited for the rest of the family and the photographer to arrive. While talking, she noticed that many of the guests had out their phones. At first glance, it was hard to tell if they were using their phones or recording. When she turned around to see what everyone was looking at, she was greeted by her soon to be fiancé on one knee displaying a beautiful diamond ring.
