October 31, 2010 We met at Mortimer Hall at The College at Brockport. I was a sophomore and Christian was a freshman. By chance, Christian and his other hockey teammates were placed in an upperclassmen hall. Fate? Maybe. We caught each other's eye at a floor meeting and both kept talking to our roommates about "the guy" or "the girl" down the hallway. Christian would come into the lounge when he saw me in there to do homework, despite not actually having any homework to do. Neither one of us knew how to really make the first move. Until, Halloween night... Christian had a hockey game that night that me and my roommates went to. My roommates and I went back to the dorm after the game to get dressed up in our costumes for a night out. Christian was coming back to his dorm room when I was leaving. Awkwardly, our paths collided in the elevator. You could hear a pin drop it was so silent. Both Christian's friend and my roommates knew that we had a "thing" for each other. But no one said a word... My roommate tried to make small talk to lessen the awkwardness. "Did you guys win?" (although me and my roommates knew the answer to this question, we were there) She then said "What's your number?"...and without thinking, I blurted out "he's number 11!" Everyone stared at me, as Christian didn't even know that I knew his name. Oops! The rest of the night, I kept saying how embarrassed I was so me and my roommates came up with a plan. The next day, I put a note underneath Christian's dorm room door. It read, "#11, I know your number so you should know mine". Christian texted me, and the rest is history! We began dating on Valentine's Day in 2011 and have been in love ever since!
July, 31 2017 I was very pregnant and starting to get nervous about having everything ready for the baby. My mom took me to dinner and out shopping to get some things. Little did I know, she was part of the plan to get me out of the house. When we were gone, my dad and brother came over to help Christian assemble all of the baby's furniture in the nursery. When I came home, he answered the door and there was rose petals everywhere. Our song, "You & Me" by Dave Matthews Band was playing and he led me up the stairs to the nursery. When he opened the door, the nursery was complete. There were roses and candles everywhere and a beautiful wooden sign that said "Will you marry me Samantha?" I don't remember much else because I was sobbing. He said something really adorable about our whole future being in that room and he couldn't imagine spending the rest of his life any other way. Of course, I said "YES!" and he called my parents right away. They were down the block waiting for it to happen :) It was so adorable and certainly a Monday evening I will never forget!
