Kyle and Kirstin met unexpectedly through their mutual "best" friend, Justin. Kyle and Justin grew up together in Beaufort during middle school, and Justin moved to Okinawa Japan where he later met Kirstin during high school and they became fast friends. Eventually Justin ended up moving back to Beaufort from Japan and moving in with Kyle and Kirstin moved to Sumter, South Carolina (only a few hours away) a few years later. They kept in touch and during the summer of 2014 Justin reached out and invited her and her sister to visit for the weekend to experience the infamous "Beaufort Water Festival" and to meet his best friend, Kyle. While it's debatable on who made the first move :) what was meant to be only a weekend trip, turned into several weekend trips, and eventually a move for Kirstin from Greenville to Beaufort to start a life with Kyle.
Going out on the boat has always been one of our favorite activities. Fishing, shrimping, gigging, booze cruising, you name it, we just really enjoy being on the water. There is something so magical about enjoying the sunsets in Beaufort by boat and watching the dolphins play along. I always thought that Kyle would propose during Water Festival (since that's where we met after all) but the weekend came and went and he didn't propose. This man has always known how to keep me on my toes. Instead, he called me after work on a random Monday and asked if I wanted to take the boat out to go shrimping. It had been awhile since we went, so I was excited! By the time we caught enough for "shrimp cocktail" the sun was going down and we were both sitting on the end of the boat with our toes in the water. I remember Kyle saying that "there is no one I would rather be here with than you" and I looked at him and told him "me too." The next thing I know he was one one knee and I said yes!! Finally! :) It was the perfect way to end our day- in our favorite place, doing our favorite thing.
