How it Began

October, 2015

It all started at a ski shop in Boulder, Colorado back in 2015. I grew up in Colorado and started working at Boulder Ski Deals while I was in college. After Matt accepted a dream job with Rossignol, he made a big move across the country from Killington, Vermont to Minturn, Colorado. During Matt’s first week in Colorado we met in the ski shop during the big ski sale over Labor Day Weekend. We hit it off instantly and began taking turns visiting each other in Denver and in the Mountains. Our earliest dates together mirror exactly what our dates look like now: skiing/snowboarding, checking out new sushi restaurants and slowly introducing Matt to more than just Spider Rolls or shrimp tempura, hiking and going on road trips together. Since then, we’ve added mountain biking, touring during the winter, the random camping trips and much more! After spending 6 months going on adventures to get to know one another we began dating, but then I took a Job in Park City with POC and we had to have a long distance relationship. Luckily Matt’s company’s headquarters is located in Park City so while the 3 years of long-distance dating wasn’t ideal, he was able to visit frequently for “work trips” 😊. In the back of our heads, we always knew if Matt got a promotion, he would be relocated to Park City. In the Spring of 2018 Matt got that first promotion and moved in with me here in Park City. Since then, we have continued to solidify our relationship and go on countless adventures. We are extremely excited to take on this next great adventure and are so happy to be sharing this wonderful day with all of you!

The Proposal

July 3rd, 2021

Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 – What I thought was just another beautiful day in Paradise turned out to be the best day of my life! Nothing seemed out of the norm that morning. We woke up to our kitten running around the house being absolutely crazy, we captured him and made him cuddle for a bit before getting ready for the day. We headed into town to run some errands, and had lunch at one of our favorite places in New Park – Maxwells. The weather could not have been better that day so as we were sitting outside having the typical chicken parm sandwich and a Pacifico for Matt, and chicken Caesar wrap and a mimosa for me, watching the cutest families play in the grass near us Matt suggested that we go for an afternoon/evening hike. Matt mentioned a week prior that he had not yet hiked to the top of Park City Mountain Resort and thought that would be a cool hike to check out sometime. Of course, I was so excited and said, heck yeah! Let’s do it! A couple of hours later, we were in the car heading to the top of Empire Pass in Park City to start our hike. Keep in mind, this is the 4th of July weekend and Town was packed, so we were expecting the trailhead and our hike would also be insanely packed. Empire Pass and the hike we went on offers some of the most gorgeous views of Park City and the surrounding area. To our surprise, the parking lot was empty! We loaded up our hiking pack with all the essentials and headed off to Jupiter Peak. Just under an hour later, we got to Jupiter Peak. I remember there being a couple of mountain bikers just behind us, so we found a spot just off the top of the peak to sit together, have a seltzie of course, and admire our beautiful little town. As soon as the bikers left, Matt said, okay they’re gone let’s check out the view from the top. While at the top, we shared the biggest hug and talked about how much we loved adventuring around together. Then, to my surprise, in that moment that Matt dropped to his knee and asked me if I wanted to share adventures like these for the rest of our lives and asked if I would marry him! To say I was shocked is a massive understatement. I immediately started crying, and almost tripped and fell off the mountain (very typical Lizzy fashion) as I said yes! The mountains have always been home and have always held a special place in our love story. We are so excited to begin this next chapter of our lives where they started, in the mountains, surrounded by our families and closest friends. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in our journey and we look forward to spending a special day together with you this September. Cheers!
