The monuments of the complex of Santa Maria del Fiore, symbol of Florence in the world, constitutes one single big open-air museum located in the main square, Piazza del Duomo, religious, historical and artistic center of the city. The cathedral is 153 meters in length, 90 meters wide at the transept, and 90 meters high from floor to base of the lantern. The title “Santa Maria del Fiore” (Lady of the flower) alludes to the name of the city, "Florentia", or “city of flowers”, “destined to bloom”, and to its emblem, the Florentine lily. Access to the Cathedral is free, without ticket, from Monday to Saturday 10:15am-3:45pm. There are also guided tours available.
