We truly believe that we were meant to be. I mean, what are the chances that life would each take us to a little island in the Puget Sound? In 2014/2015 we were living our separate, urban lives, each ready for a change. Erin was working in downtown Seattle. Shaun in Richmond, Virginia. A friend called Erin up and said “I have a job for you that might change your life” and shortly thereafter Erin fell for the charms of Island Life and moved to Camp Burton. Shaun also got a phone call that changed his life, from a friend offering a job on a farm “Out West”. He packed up everything he owned and drove across the country to settle in on the island. We met online and messaged for a few months off and on before finally going on our first date. We met up at The Red Bicycle (a dive bar on Vashon) on December 4th, 2015. We had our second and third dates the following week. By March, Shaun had moved in and we were talking forever. It’s been a wonderful 5 years, growing together and discovering new passions that led us to start our joint business and begin building our dream life.
I'll set the scene; Shaun and I are in a creek in the woods, on a fossil hunting adventure. We are suited up in waders and rain boots, long since soaked. We've climbed our way down into the creek with shovel and sifters in hand. A couple of hours in, Shaun and I are standing in the middle of the creek, water up to our knees, splattered in mud. The stream is bubbling, sunshine is coming in, dappled by the leaves. I'm soaking in the natural beauty when I turn around and Shaun is on one knee, holding out the engagement ring we designed and produced ourselves. Perfection.
