Lauren and her friend Monique got in a Uber to catch a Metra train to Naperville for the Rib Fest Music Festival at 10:30 am on July 6th, 2018. After getting stuck in the Puerto Rican pride parade and the train leaving without them, they picked up some White Claws and Jimmy John's and tried again. Chris and his friend Brad were on that same train and noticed Lauren and Monique after the train conductor publicly shamed them for trying to use a student ticket for their ride. (They were technically grad students - the stipulations weren't clear.) After arriving in Naperville the promised shuttle to take festival attendees to the grounds was no where to be found. The girls approached Chris and Brad to inquire if they too were searching for the same transportation. The group decided to share an Uber to the festival and Lauren and Monique waited on them to get their wristbands so they could repay them for the Uber ride with Miller Lites. The foursome ended up hanging out all day, with Brad and Monique being the ultimate wingmen. They had so much fun they missed their train home and shared a ride back to the city to end their evening at the beloved Lottie's Pub. Lauren and Chris sealed their night with a kiss in an alleyway and the rest is history.
On the anniversary of when we first met, we were headed to dinner and passed one of our favorite places, the Caldwell Lilly pond. Lauren insisted on going to look for a turtle as we often did. Little did she know Chris had his sister, Jenni, and their friend hiding to catch the moment. While trying to spot a turtle, she turned and found Chris one knee and burst into happy sobs saying YES!
