We met in 2008 at a gathering at Launiopoko Park, Maui. We became acquaintances, and I think it'd be safe to say we each caught each other's eye. We made plans to get to know each other better, but each time we tried, for whatever reasons we could never connect. Life happened, but we became social media friends and kept in touch that way. Over the course of seven years, we individually went through some enormous growing pains. Each of us, under different circumstances were forced to look deeper into ourselves and learn to love and nurture ourselves first and foremost. In perfect timing; August 2015, we finally were able to connect. A dinner date was made. Our opposite personalities attracted immediately as we ordered: Molten Chocolate Lava Cake for Heather and a variety of different sushi rolls for Chas. Instantly an epic love was formed.
June 22, 2017 I had many different scenarios played out in my head on how I planned to propose to this amazing woman. She defied them all. We were standing out on her mother's lanai enjoying the beautiful day. It was her 40th birthday, we were exchanging playful words and she started to feel my pockets, "What are you doing," I asked with a nervous giggle. Flirtatiously she tells me she is looking for her ring. I tried my best to keep it a secret. I flew all the way to Oregon with that ring hidden deep in all my things. All I could do was muster up nervous laughter. "I'm just kidding," she says all the while laughing at my reaction. She then starts to get ready for a scheduled birthday massage. I did have the ring on me. I took it out from its hiding place, took a deep breath, revealed it to her and asked, "Will you do life with me?" She looked at me disbelievingly and tells me, "Shut up. Are you for real?" Not quite what I expected so I bent the knee and tried again, "Heather Lee McKenzie, I love our life together. Will you do life with me?" She said, "YES!"
