Our small ceremony was held at Pages Bookshop in Detroit, where we first met. Being literary, we asked Katie's uncle Calvin to share an excerpt from Annie's Dillard's "The Writing Life" and Matt's sister Midge to give a reading of Mary Oliver's poem "Coming Home." (And of course, we each wrote our own vows.) Matt's best man, Dan, was also our officiant, and Emily, Katie's sister and maid of honor, helped Matt's nephew Nate and Katie's cousin Eli with the rings.
After the ceremony, we got a few shots at the historic Redford Theatre, where we have attended viewings of "Home Alone" and "The Little Mermaid" (a sing-along!). Lunch was at a favorite restaurant, Selden Standard, and that evening we gathered at Katie's parents' house for cake.
