In 2014 Jovon and Charmaine met while working at Verizon Wireless. Jovon shared with a close friend that he had a crush on Charmaine. This friend took the liberty of including Charmaine in an email thread that enclosed details about a surprise invite to celebrate Jovon's birthday at work. She was very surprised to receive this email as the pair were only cordial. On Jovon's birthday October 31, 2014 they exchanged numbers through this mutual friend and hung out the same night. Charmaine had a cold but refused to cancel their impromptu date. During dinner Jovon had to keep passing Charmaine tissues, the pair continued to date from then on, and began an exclusive relationship in May 2016.

At the end of 2018 Jovon began researching how he wanted to create the perfect proposal for the year to come. In January 2019 Charmaine found out they were expecting their first child together, Ezra. At that point Jovon knew he wanted to propose during the baby shower with close family and friends. Charmaine always insisted it was her dream to have a private proposal with just her and Jovon, he did the complete opposite and we are glad he did. During the baby shower of August 24, 2019 Jovon had their daughter Khloe hand Charmaine a bag and told her to look at her gift first which was a spa gift certificate, Khloe then handed her a card. Inside the card it enclosed a beautiful letter with a note at the end that stated "PS My Daddy wants to tell you something"; at that point Jovon got on one knee and Charmaine cried tears of joy while leaving Jovon on his knee for a lengthy time as she gathered her emotions to finally say "YES"
