We met during quarantine when our friend group decided to spend every day together, either on the lake or riding around, playing games in our hometown. One evening, while we were out riding around, Chase smoothly asked for my number in case he needed it while we were playing some form of hide and seek. As quarantine came to an end, Chase moved to Auburn, and I began my senior year of high school. We started texting every day, and those texts soon turned into hour-long phone calls. Eventually, those phone calls led to Chase coming home almost every weekend to see me. And that’s how we ended up becoming boyfriend and girlfriend in October 2020 to where we are now, almost five years later!
The day of the proposal, we had planned a little pre-race dinner celebration for me, as I was running the Auburn 5K the next day. Chase suggested we have a "good luck" dinner, which wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for us since we often go out to nice dinners. That afternoon, Chase came over to hang out with me while I got ready and helped me pick out what to wear. It didn’t raise any red flags because this was pretty normal, except for him repeatedly mentioning that he was wearing khakis that night since it was a nice restaurant. Fast forward to us in the car, and Chase accidentally missed his turn. When I asked if he noticed, he casually said it was fine and that we could just take a little walk to the restaurant. He then parked in front of the water fountain in downtown Opelika. He asked if we should go look at the fountain, and I said sure! As we walked, we made small talk about whether the water would be cold or not. Earlier in the car, we had talked about how thankful we were for one another and our relationship. Then, as we reached the fountain, Chase said, “Well, going back to what we were talking about in the car, I want to spend the rest of my life with you…” And TA-DAH! We were engaged!
