In the early summer of 2021, Lauren, my sister-in-law, called and asked me to come to Florida for a few weeks in the summer to help with their youth camps at church. I was super excited for the chance to be with Jon Jon and Lauren and help mentor their students. But, when I showed up to Lakeland, I was shocked to meet their new (and very attractive) male intern- Canaan Bennett. I had immediate butterflies and instantly knew that Canaan was going to be a very important part of my life. We spent the week at camp getting to know each other and hanging out with students, but by day five the feelings were too strong to ignore. A few days after camp, Canaan took me on the first date of all first dates and I was mesmerized. Long story short, I took a leap of faith and decided to pack up everything and move to Florida the next week. And while I swore I didn't move for a boy, it sure worked out ;)
Because Canaan lives in Tallahassee and I live in Lakeland, he knew he had to go above and beyond to pull off a surprise. So on October 7, I woke up and went through my day as usual. My dad made me coffee, I went to the gym with my mom, and I worked on some homework. My grandma was in town so my family had plans to go walk through a garden and go out for dinner, but all of that seemed normal. I texted, facetimed, and snapchatted Canaan all throughout the day, so any suspicions I had of him proposing that day were diminished. So when I walked around the corner of Bok Tower and saw Canaan standing there, I was SHOCKED. After he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, almost my entire family from around the whole country ran out of the bushes to surprise me. He had designed my dream ring and I could not believe how stunning it is. It was definitely one of the best days of my life! He had an elaborate surprise party planned to top it all off, with all of our loved ones around to celebrate.
