I was at a family event when I logged into Facebook on my cousin’s computer and found that I had a “poke” from someone named Chamar Grissom. My sister, cousin, and I clicked through his pictures one by one. I saw that he was tall, an athlete, and we had quite a few mutual friends. After browsing his page for several minutes, my cousin and sister convinced me to poke him back. He then added me as a friend, we sent a few messages back and forth, we exchanged numbers, and our story began. About one decade, three beautiful daughters, and a whole lot of procrastination later, we are finally honoring God by entering into the holy covenant of marriage.
We had a huge party to celebrate Chamar’s epic 30th birthday. At the end of the night, the lights were off and all our friends and family were gathered to sing happy birthday when Chamar stopped the action, saying, “We’re going to sing happy birthday in about 30 seconds.” To everyone’s surprise, and to my absolute shock, he got down on one knee and pulled out a lighted ring box. I couldn’t even hear him say the words “Will you marry me?” over the sounds of everyone screaming with joy. In fact, after several minutes of hugs and tear-stained kisses from ecstatic friends and family, I noticed Chamar still down on one knee. I bent down and kissed him, and just like that, our future was sealed!
