We had planned a weekend away for the New Year and arrived in Chattanooga early in the morning on New Year's Eve. Our plans were to go directly to Rock City so that we could explore it in the daylight together since we had only ever been at night. I was slightly confused about why I was being rushed across Rock City but Charlie told me that he had never seen the view of the seven states in the day time. We were being pushed for time because by the time we made it up the mountain it had started to rain. As we finally make it to the lookout for the seven states, the lightning and thunder had already begun and they were actively closing off the look out areas. I’m VERY confused at this point because I now see his sister holding his guitar and a bouquet of flowers. He took his guitar and started playing “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” while standing in the rain. It started raining even harder as he sang and everyone that had been moving around to close off the areas had stopped to just watch. I expected this moment to be a time that I cried uncontrollably but I think that I was too much in shock to cry. Then he knelt down and all of the butterflies in my stomach released and I am not sure that I could have put my hand out or said “yes” any faster than what I did. I don’t know that I could have ever imagined a more beautiful or surprising proposal than my love serenading me through a storm.
