Patricia and Charles met in the spring of 2013 at Illinois State University, when he sat down next to her in class. Their paths wouldn't cross again until the spring of 2015, when Charles joined a school organization that Patricia was a member of. Patricia and Charles developed a friendship and began dating that fall.

On February 9th, 2019 Charles proposed to Patricia at Ewing Manor in Bloomington. Charles and his mom crafted a plan to trick Patricia into thinking that they were attending an awards ceremony, where Patricia's brother would receive an award. Upon arriving at Ewing Manor, they were greeted by their hostess and welcomed to their Valentine's Day Dinner. After dinner, Patricia and Charles toured the mansion, where Charles had placed pictures from their time together. After the tour, Charles pulled Patricia into the Ballroom where they danced to one of their favorite songs. Charles got down on one knee and proposed to Patricia. She responded "Yes!" and the rest is history.
