August is a busy month for Maine, so we recommend booking your travel as soon as possible!
We recommend either renting a car or hiring a car service. We use Ken Carr's Car Service (207-942-4990). If you decide to rent a car, we recommend reserving one several months in advance since August is a busy time in Maine and the demand for rental cars is high.
You cannot book online. You need to call the inns and leave a message saying you would like to reserve a room for the Salter-duPont wedding. Someone will call you back to finalize the details.
We have several guest rooms reserved at the local university for our guests. Please contact their Conferences Office at (207) 326-2283 or Conferences@mma.edu to book. There is also Airbnb, Vrbo, and other rental properties available in town. There are no ubers, so we recommend staying close to town.
Afternoon highs are usually in the mid-70s, and evenings can dip into the 60s.
Castine is very walkable, so we recommend exploring town by foot or renting bikes through the Pentagoet or Castine Inn. For the wedding, the inns are a short, five-minute walk from the church. There will be golf carts to transport our guests from the inns to the reception (though this is also a lovely walk for those not in heels!)
Our attire is formal (suits and long dresses), but wear whatever you're comfortable in! Please note the reception will be outdoors, so this might not be the best venue for a skinny heel.
We love your kids, but our wedding events are adults-only (and hopefully a fun night off parenting duty!)
Yes, if you rent a car and have the time, we definitely recommend exploring beautiful Downeast Maine! We suggest hiking at Acadia or Blue Hill Mountain, biking Acadia's carriage roads (rentals available), and visiting Camden, Belfast, Bar Harbor, or Rockland.
