On October 14, 2016, Charles and Mili met for a blind date at the outdoor patio of a bar on the Lower East Side. They talked over some drinks and fried food and then walked to Union Square in the clear autumn night. As they parted ways, Mili turned and grabbed Charles’ arm, thus saving him from stepping in a puddle of vomit. Three years later on a Sunday after church, Charles and Mili took a trip to the top of the World Trade Center in New York. The building crowned the skyline in the background of their many strolls along the Hudson River among busy New Jerseans and a bustling metropolis of seagulls, geese, and ducks. That day, Charles and Mili entered the world of those birds, as they ascended high above the city to the observation deck. There, as they enjoyed a drink, Charles presented Mili with the ring his own father had given his mother and asked her to marry him. Mili said yes.
