We met at Cal's one night on the Eastside of Detroit (YEAH, CUZ SOUTH DETROIT IS NOT A THING) after a long day of cheer and work. We got together with a few mutual friends to kickback and enjoy a night of dancing and adult libations (WE BE CLUBBIN’)! Raina was DJ'ing (GO DJ, CUZ THAT’S MY DJ) and Charita was cuttin' a rug on the dance floor (NOW LET ME SEE YOU ONE, TWO STEP). We both looked up at the same time and there was an instant SPARK (WE FOUND LOVE IN A HOPELESS PLAACCEEE)! There was some small talk between friends, but we kept making our way back to each other (EVERY TIME I TRY TO LEAVE SOMETHING KEEP PULLING ME BACK, ME BACK). After a few weeks of getting to know each other better, Ja'Quez sealed the deal with a playdate with "DJ Raina Rain" and it didn't take long for us to both think that this could be special!

We took a trip to NYC for Charita's birthday. The plan was to enjoy all that THE BIG APPLE had to offer. On our first night there, we checked in to our hotel which was located in Times Square. We set out to have dinner and drinks followed by a night of dancing at The Stonewall Inn (this is a good time to use your googles)! Over dinner, we engaged in our routine conversation about what a proposal by one of us would look like. This time, Raina was asking how Charita would like to be proposed to. Charita replied "you can roll over and say Happy Birthday or ask me in the middle of Times Square, it doesn't really matter, I just want to spend my life with you". Shortly after that conversation, we were done with dinner and headed out the door. Charita asked if we could call an Uber to head to Stonewall, but Raina, with other things in mind, suggested we head back to Times Square. Charita was complaining THE ENTIRE time (LOL), meanwhile, Raina just kept on walking, as if she was not hearing a word. Before Charita knew it, she was in the middle of Times Square and Raina was proposing! Charita had no clue what was happening so after taking a minute to get composed, she said “YES”! …and just like that in front of 200 of our closest friends (definitely strangers), we were engaged.
