With Sadness

Dearest Friends and Family, It is with great sadness that we have decided to cancel our May 8, 2021 wedding ceremony and reception due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. We appreciate all of the love and support we have received during this time and while making this very difficult decision. We will hold onto our dream of having all our loved ones together to celebrate our marriage at some point in the future. Our focus is now on things we can better control, like building our future and planning for a family (and hopefully a honeymoon!). We are so thankful to be building our marriage on such a solid foundation of love and support from all of you. We wish you all love, health, and happiness in this new year! We can't wait to spend time with you all soon. Love, the Principatos

How We Met

Bumble and a Buzz

In typical millennial fashion, we each swiped right on Bumble in late January 2018 (during a victorious UVA basketball game against Duke - a sign from the Universe not lost on Luke). We could tell from our Bumble profiles and very light social media stalking that we had some important things in common: we were each Wahoos and twins. Although we were both over the DC dating scene, we thought this was enough material for a first date. Luke suggested coffee at one of his favorite spots, A Baked Joint, not knowing that it was also a place that Charlotte holds dear. On a rainy Sunday morning, tired from a busy weekend and with low expectations for another DC date, chemistry quickly developed over savory oatmeal (his fave) and an OMG Bar (her fave). Luke was captivated by Charlotte's passionate description of the perfectly crafted OMG bar and Charlotte was enamored by Luke's confidence and over-caffeination. Three hours and too many cups of coffee later, they were already planning date number two. The rest is history (full of coffee and OMG bars)!

How He Proposed

On a balmy DC summer night, Luke and Charlotte headed to dinner at La Betty, with all intentions of grabbing some food, hitting up a rooftop bar for a drink, and heading home for an early night (or so Charlotte thought). After leaving La Betty, Charlotte and Luke almost walked past A Baked Joint (next door), when Luke said "hey, let's stop in here for a second." Charlotte, knowing it was closed and pointing to the sign, was in the middle of protesting when Luke opened the door. Luke led Charlotte into the cafe, where she heard Al Green playing and looked over to the seats where she and Luke first met to see them adorned with flowers, candles, and OMG bars. Everything from there was a blur of tears, but Charlotte remembers Luke saying many sweet things, getting down on one knee, and she definitely remembers saying YES. (An enormous shout out of gratitude to our friends Tessa, Tim, Brian, Molly, and Carl for helping to arrange and capture such a momentous moment in our lives). That wasn't the only surprise that Luke had in store, though. Luke told Charlotte that they needed to head home to see her best friend, James, as he was expecting them. Charlotte asked whether any other friends or family knew about the engagement. Luke responded that although he tried to get friends and family all together, none of the summer weekends worked for everyone, so he only told James and Charlotte's sister, Emily, and that they would Facetime everyone after sharing our story with James. The two arrived home and headed upstairs through the backdoor to see James, when Charlotte opened it and was met by all of her close friends and family from near and far standing there for a surprise engagement celebration. The early night she had expected ended early the next morning instead, and was filled with many more tears of happiness and gratitude.
